Continuity Exercise Evaluation

When Continuity is broken it can question the film/film making and when continuity isn't broken the audience never questions the film or film making.

Continuity: The continuity of this piece is flows well, overall the shots i feel are clear and fluent, but saying this there are some continuity errors such as at 0:23 when it is about to fade you can see me look at the camera directly, this really isn't a continuity error more of a man made error. Another error which was made is at 0:38 where the last shot has been faded and then the next shot has no fade-in and also there is a delay of when she turns around. One of the are major and obvious is at 0:40 - 0:41 where the shots jumps due to the fact the editing is has been cropped but some of the frames are missing. I feel that one of the minor continuity errors that could of been avoided was at 0:48 - 0:49 because he is walking but right at the end as the shot is about to be over he runs through the gates. Even though these are continuity errors some of them can not been seen without someone pointing them out to you. Even though we had some major errors we also had some positive feedback on some points that we didn't pick up on like at 0:24 - 0:27 the 2 weeks later sign was originally to hide the weather change but they liked it due to the fact it made a lot of sense due to the costumes. We had Dean where his black top and made Courtney wear another/different set of clothes to make it feel like it was set about 2 weeks later, we did this intentionally but when we edited it we found out it worked really well with the 2 week sign.

Mise-en-scene is whatever is in the scene or frame E.g Costumes, Lighting, Props etc.

we try to use what we had to use. we used st of our props in 0:11- 0:24, most of our props was on the policemen which was the handcuffs, hat and the radio which is located on the left pocket, the only other prop which was used was the knife and gun which can be found in shot 0:09 and 0:54. We tried not to break the 180 degree rule and i believe that we didn't due to the fact we always shot the footage from one potion and just moved the camera left or right. lighting was a big pain for us because at 0:00 to 0:24 was all set in a mist and we ran out of time for that day. so we had to re-write the whole ending so we decided to keep the killer in the same clothes but change the victims clothes because it was different lighting and it would of messed up the footage and made a huge continuity error. we used our local play park for a setting due to the fact we wanted an area where it looked abandoned so we used the back of the park where it goes into an abandon allotment which is now overgrown and deserted. We originally thought about shooting in the middle of the park but it wouldn't look convincing.

Camera work is the angles of the camera and making sure you don't break the 180 degrees rule.

Our camera work was good but our variety wasn't good, we only used camera angles that we felt safe with. We used multiple tracking shots, one of them was at 0:00 - 0:04. we also used some over the shoulder shots at 0:36.  we used a variety of shots but the smoothness of the camera was a bit wobbly, so i believe that we should of used a steady cam, which would of helped with with the overall smoothness of the piece. the smoothness was only wobbly at some points, for example at 0:37 - 0:47 we could of prevented this with using a steady cam. Saying this though, we had some superb shots, for example at 0:06 - 0:08 the close up shows how nervous the guy was by capturing the facial expressions. The zoom sot at 0:10 - 0:14 was one of my favorite shots because it shows my facial expression really well and also as it zooms out it show his whole body posture and overall his body language.

Sound is used to create a mood which the editor is trying to create. Sound effects is used to great a certain mood, such as a gun shot etc.

we really didn't use no sound at all due to the fact we had no time to add sound, we would of liked to add some sound but we had some editing problems which caused us too make us delayed. we only had time to add some sound effects right at the end where he shoots the girl and the police siren towards the end of the clip. If we had time to put some sound in it would of made the clip more dramatic and would of made the piece have more tension.
