Section 1 - Brief
The brief for this task was to choose a uni lever product and make an advert. The product we choose was Lipton. 2 of the group members had already chosen Lipton, the other chose Dove. We sat down and talked about it and we all agreed that we should do Lipton because of the ideas we had. Because we went with the Lipton idea we allowed the other person who picked Dove, to come up with the final idea because we wanted him to feel that we didn't go by a majority vote due to 2 people already doing Lipton. The current target audience is for people of the ages of 16 and up. The reason why is because is it aimed at people who enjoy tea, which statistically is 16-76. target audience was people between the ages of 18-30. The reason why we had chosen this age group is because we based our advert on a interview, and we wanted to aim it at people who are applying for jobs and are getting stressed about interviews and work in general.
Section 2. The finished product & feedback
We used a website called SurveyMonkey. This allowed us to make a questionnaire specifically designed to our advert. We then used social media and Emails to distribute our surveys out. This allowed us to gather accurate result and also gave us constructed criticism. The advert get the right review as we thought. We tried to make a serious impact but also have a slight humor in the advert, but we quickly found out that the audience didn't like it. Our adverts target audience was 16-30 year old's. With the reviews and responses we got, the majority said the target audience was 18-32. When we made the advert we decided to hall a dull approach at first, with dim colours and making the interviewee look scruffy and making look unprofessional.
As soon as he drinks the Lipton, making him look smart, clean and professional by using bright colours. We tried to use multiple camera shots such as close-ups, Over the shoulder, pans, tracking shots and dolly shots. We used most of these shots and we even used some of these shots more than once. We had a slight issue with the mise-en-scene, we wanted it to look professional, But the background was to college like. We tried to use aspects of the college that looked business like but we found ever so hard later on to find a location where it was so college like.
We used an attachable microphone to the camera so out sound was clear and didnt sound muffled and crackly. This was a good idea later on we we encountered sound issues outside, luckily it didnt pick them up as the microphone was focused on the actors. Once we had filmed everything, we began to edit the clips we had gathered. We used Premiere Pro to edit our clips as it was what was available at the time. We didnt come in to many problems when editing, the main one was adjusting the colour levels. That was soon done and the rest of editing was completed. All the members in our team thought that the finished piece sold the product to a satisfactory point, but our audience was split 50/50. We believe that the reason why people didn't think that the people understood the advert because it was set at a higher age group than what our audience was. With many of other groups they set to have a slight comedic approach, where as ours was more serious. I believe that we sold it effectively, I just don't believe our audience bought it. We tried persuading the audience by getting a message across, this message was whenever you are stressed or under pressure just relax and drink Lipton. This was as effective as we wanted it to be, as most of the responses we got said they WOULDN'T buy our product because they didn't quite understand the advert. The other responses understood the advert and also said the WOULD buy the product, overall the efficiency of the advert varied. We wanted the message to be if you are stressed, drink Lipton.
We did this by a nervous guy walking into a interview looking scruffy and tatty, and then he drinks the Lipton and he goes back into the interview and gets the job. By sending this message it meant we was targeting people who where either looking for jobs or going into higher education and was stressed and also under pressure. The advert fit the purpose I believe, It felt like it was well constructed and also flowed well. I believe that the advert does not break any of the BCAP codes or break anything that it isn't meant too. The music we used was loyalty free, and also any code that apply's for our advert was not broken and was followed so it was safe from getting taken down.
Section 3. Personal reflection
We feel like the advert was what we intended it to be, just some parts wasn't as planned as others. The whole idea was met, which we was happy about. Our storyboard was a huge thing which our group followed, as we where happy with the idea which we came up with. I strongly believe that the final product was what we wanted and also what we had visioned it to be like. Our documentation was almost the same as our final edit, there was one part we had to change due to location reasons. This is the only thing that we had to change. Overall I happy with the overall advert, I just felt that we should have taken the advert not as serious and tried to make the overall story clearer. I feel like our advert could of done with some scenes being shot again, but due to time issues we had to leave. Due to these shots not being re-shot it meant that there is a few points that bring the advert together which we are missing. The advert had to be no more than 1 minute 30, but our overall idea was way above 2 minutes. Due to this we had to shorten our advert and by shortening it, it also meant that the advert didn't really seem like it was finished. This was not any of the groups members fault, this was just a huge time crisis. Even though this stopped us from filming for a couple of hours, Once we headed back to start editing it we found out that we could just remove a couple of the scenes and it would still make sense. This was a huge relief on our part because we honestly thought we would of had to re-shoot the whole advert. I've learned a lot of tips and techniques from this assignment as it has taught me about time management, different types of shots, and many more. Apart from those minor points i fell like that advert was a success in my eyes and also I feel that it got the message across.
